People all over the UK love their weighted blankets for good reason! During and after use, people report lower levels of anxiety, stress, depression, fatigue, chronic pain, and more relaxation and happiness. What’s not to love?

But as with regular blankets, weighted blankets can get dirty with body oils, dirt, sweat, and other messes and must be washed regularly

How to Wash a Weighted Blanket

First, always read the label.

Not all weighted blankets are made of the same material. Does your blanket use glass beads or plastic pellets to create weight? Is it crafted with fleece, cotton, or a fabric blend?

The care directions on your blanket’s label should always be the first destination for trying to decide how to clean it. If those directions are unclear or if the label isn’t present, here are a few best practices.

Please note that the King 7kg Weighted Blanket should be hand washed and air dried only.

Hand wash or machine?

Depending on how your weighted blanket was made, you can either hand wash or machine wash it.

If your blanket is made with glass sand beads (as all of our blankets are), that means it is most likely machine washable!

Simply place your blanket in the washbasin and set the machine to a cold, delicate cycle.

If your blanket is made with plastic pellets, then it’s best to hand-wash. Plastic pellets are far less durable than glass beads. They could melt or morph shape in the washing machine.

To hand-wash, fill your laundry tub with cool water, insert your blanket and detergent, and scrub each section of the blanket one by one. Be sure not to soak it for too long!

What type of detergent should I use?

Whether hand washing or machine washing, always use a gentle detergent on your weighted blanket.

How often should I wash it?

It’s generally a good idea to wash your blankets, comforters, and duvets once per season. However, if you use your weighted blanket nightly, you should be washing it every six weeks.

How to Dry a Weighted Blanket

Almost all weighted blankets should be laid flat or hung out to dry. However, the kuddly Weighted Blanket can be tumble dried if need be. Be sure to put the drier on a low-heat setting to avoid searing.

Care Guidelines for Weighted Blankets

There are a few things you can do during the washing process to ensure your blanket’s longevity.

1. Wash your weighted blanket as often as necessary, but as little as possible.

The more you wash your blanket, the faster it will deteriorate. Use a flat sheet under your blanket so you can wash your blanket as little as 4 times per year.

2. Keep your detergents simple.

If you want your blanket to smell fresh, try spritzing it with an essential oil and water mixture instead of using scented fabric softeners and detergents. After prolonged used, harsh scenting agents can deteriorate fabrics and cause damage to your health, as well!

3. Avoid heat.

This is true for all blankets but especially if your blanket is filled with plastic pellets. Do not iron your weighted blanket or expose it to any sort of heat during the cleaning process.

In Conclusion

A weighted blanket is an amazing tool that can increase your quality of life and day-to-day comfort, but it needs to be cleaned regularly to avoid accumulating bacteria and deterioration of quality.

Luckily, thanks to high-quality materials and craftsmanship, washing your kuddly Weighted Blanket is easy.
